Report – West Ham plot cut-price swoop for Bundesliga 23y/o
West Ham have entered the race to sign SC Freiburg centre-back Robin Koch, according to the Daily Star.
A report from the national outlet suggests that the Hammers are keen to make a move for the 23-year-old, and could end up landing him for a heavily reduced price because of the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
Freiburg turned down a bid of £17.5 million from RB Leipzig for the defender in January, but it is understood that he could be available for a fraction of that price at the end of the season.
It is stated that David Moyes is eager to add more defensive cover to his squad to provide competition for both Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop at the back.
But the Hammers could face competition from a host of English rivals if they are to secure the services of the German.
The Star also suggest that Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City, and Leeds United are interested in capturing him.
Would Koch be a good signing for the Irons?
He certainly looks like a real talent, that much is for sure.
The 23-year-old has a great season over in Germany, and has averaged a defensive duel win rate of 71.1%, as well as 4.57 interceptions, and 9.49 recoveries in his own half per game, as per Wyscout.
As a point of reference, Issa Diop has won 63.8% of his defensive duels this term, as per Wyscout.
Koch is a good prospect at a good age, and if the Hammers can secure him for a decent price, this feels a like a good deal all-round.
