Report: West Ham offered Belgium international

West Ham United’s January transfer business has been successful so far, getting in a much-needed new goalkeeper, but more is undoubtedly needed.

There are holes to fill at the full back positions, in central midfield, and in attack. The club’s board can’t be afraid to spend this month.

Yet, with around a week to go, no outfield signings have yet been made in east London. However, that could change in an instant.

The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that the Hammers have been offered the chance to sign Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco.

The Irons’ Premier League rivals Crystal Palace are thought to be in pole position, with the 26-year-old currently training alone in Belgium.

The big issue with any deal for the Belgian international is that he’s currently on wages of £180,000-per-week which would be a problem for both Palace and West Ham.

Is Carrasco worth bringing in?

He’d certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini, but that might be irrelevant.

His wages are just absolutely colossal, and so it would take a whole lot of negotiating before a deal could be done.

You’d have to cut that in half – at least – before the Hammers would even entertain a deal, so this one might be a write-off.

In other West Ham news, the club are reportedly locked in talks to sign a Ligue 1 striker on loan this month.
