Report: West Ham man has played his last game for the club

West Ham United goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez has had a historically awful time at the club. You don’t want to be too harsh, but he has been horrendous.

That’s the truth, there’s no getting away from it. In any other business he’d be fired for being so bad at his job, so there you go.

What the Hammers have to do, instead of firing him, is find a club foolish enough to take him off their hands.

In that, it appears that they may have succeeded. Football Insider reported on Saturday that an agreement is close to loan him to Spanish side Alaves for the remainder of the season.

Indeed, the board have all agreed that the 33-year-old has played his last game for the club. He won’t be featuring again.

David Moyes has decided, alongside the club big-wigs, that the Spaniard is ill-suited to the English game.

The Irons are hoping that Roberto plays regularly for Alaves and well enough that he attracts interest for a permanent transfer away next summer.

Will this deal work out as the Hammers hope?

The problem with this plan is that the east London club are pinning their hopes on Roberto playing well for Alaves. Judging from how he’s done for the Hammers, that’s something of a long shot.

Still, it’s the right decision that he shouldn’t play for the club again. Lukasz Fabianski, Darren Randolph and David Martin are all at the club, while there are a couple of quality young ‘keepers as well.

So Roberto isn’t needed, and it would be good to get his wages off the books. If by some miracle he does do well, then hopefully Alaves or somebody else buys him next summer.
