Report: West Ham lead PL rivals in race for £20m-rated striker
West Ham United’s mammoth club record signing of Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer simply hasn’t worked out.
The 25-year-old has scored just six times for the Hammers, with his performances looking increasingly dispiriting.
He’s suffered from a severe lack of service, to be fair, and he’s clearly playing for a desperate Irons team.
But he’s not done enough for a man who commanded the sort of transfer fee that he did last summer.
It’s no surprise, then, that the club are reported to be looking at further attacking reinforcements moving forward.
The Sun claimed on Saturday that the east London outfit are leading their Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in the chase for Amiens’ £20million-rated striker Serhou Guirassy.
They’re said to have been tracking the frontman for a while, and the French side are now thought be open to selling him.
Officials from the club were in London last week to attempt to tie up a deal, allowing them to make their own plans for the summer transfer window.
Is Guirassy what the Hammers need?
Yes, another frontman would definitely help. Albian Ajeti clearly isn’t in David Moyes’ plans, meaning that there’s no real alternative to Haller at the moment.
Guirassy has eight goals in Ligue 1 this campaign for a struggling Amiens side, so he’s clearly decent.
However, you do wonder after the Haller signing whether West Ham would be better off signing a proven Premier League attacker.
That would surely be better than gambling on someone from foreign fields making a seamless adaptation to English football.
