Report: West Ham duo out until Liverpool clash
West Ham United did manage to score three times in their draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, but they’re still struggling in front of goal.
Club record signing Sebastien Haller has had an underwhelming first season at the London Stadium so far, while players like Manuel Lanzini have disappointed as well.
However, the Hammers’ problems in front of goal will hopefully improve when two attacking midfielders return from injury.
Unfortunately, though, Sunday’s clash with Manchester City looks likely to be too soon for both Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko.
Claret & Hugh reported on Monday that Brazilian international Anderson is likely to miss out on Sunday, but should return against Liverpool after the international break.
The former Lazio man has been out since injuring his back against Sheffield United last month, but is thought to be recovering well.
Yarmolenko is also progressing impressively and is expected to face the league leaders, as well.
Is this good news or bad news?
It’s a bit of both, to be honest, and it probably depends on how you look at it. The fact that neither man is likely to be back against City increases the chances that deadline day signing Jarrod Bowen will make his debut from the start.
Most Irons supporters would likely view that as a good thing. Plus, it’s just one more game without the duo.
Once they do come back, a front three of Anderson, Bowen and Michail Antonio would likely be ideal, while Haller could potentially fit somewhere in there as well.
In other West Ham news, a polarising Hammers star reportedly turned down the chance to leave the club last month.
