Report: West Ham coach only in until season’s end

David Moyes’ return to West Ham United over the festive period was so sudden that the Scot hadn’t really gotten a coaching staff assembled at the time.

Despite the fact that a deal must’ve been in place for him to return for some time – given the quickness of his appointment as Manuel Pellegrini’s replacement – he had no-one with him.

That was an issue that the former Everton boss addressed earlier this month with the recruitment of Kevin Nolan and Paul Nevin to his coaching staff.

That was much-needed, because the Hammers require all the assistance they can get in this relegation battle.

However it appears that this motley crew of coaches that Moyes has assembled may not be in place for the long-term.

Football Insider reported on Wednesday that Nevin is only contracted to the east London club until the end of the season.

The 50-year-old has a well-established past with former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton.

So, whether he remains at the London Stadium beyond this campaign or not probably depends on whether Hughton takes up a new post anytime soon.

Is this an issue for the Hammers?

Probably not, no. Moyes has good guys in place already, with both Nolan and Alan Irvine at the club already.

But Nevin is a respected coach who has done good work with Brighton, Norwich City and England in the past.

Nolan would appear to be a more crucial coaching addition than Nevin, though, given his past association with the club.

So if Hughton gets a new job and Nevin decides to move on, fair play. Good luck to him. The Irons will be fine.
