Report – West Ham big name caught up in Coronavirus controversy

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has been spotted taking part in a kick about with close friend and Chelsea star Mason Mount, despite the latter being on an enforced period of quarantine, according to the Mirror.

The pair were pictured taking part in a casual game of five-a-side near Barnet on Sunday afternoon.

The entirety of Chelsea’s squad have been put under lockdown since winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for Covid-19 last week.

And while the Hammers have not imposed such a policy on their players, manager David Moyes only just came out of self-isolation after coming into contact with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

It is understood that Mount could be facing internal disciplinary action from his club for failing to adhere to their guidelines on the matter.

For their part, West Ham have insisted that Rice has done nothing wrong.

Is Rice in the wrong here?

The club might say that Rice has done nothing wrong here, but you can’t help feeling that he’s been somewhat irresponsible.

There is no way that he wasn’t aware of the fact that Mount was in quarantine, or why that would be the case.

To then go and play a contact sport with him, in spite of all the warnings we are being given right now, is nothing short of foolish.

Of course, Mount is the real culprit here, and he shouldn’t be so flippant with everything that is going on, but that doesn’t absolve Rice either.

We all have a responsibility to be switched on and diligent right now, and this  incident was very, very far away from the standard that we should all be demanding of each other if we are to arrest the spread of Covid-19.
