Report: Sullivan finalises West Ham signing

West Ham United appear to finally be clicking into gear with regards to their January transfer business – no disrespect to goalkeeping recruit Darren Randolph.

Saturday’s dismal FA Cup defeat to West Bromwich Albion was damning evidence that serious changes are needed at the London Stadium.

One signing isn’t going to fix all that – and nor should it quell the supporters’ antagonism towards the owners – but it’s a step in the right direction.

Football Insider reported on Tuesday that Hammers co-owner David Sullivan has told manager David Moyes that ‘I’ve got you a present’ after sealing a deal for Slavia Prague midfielder Tomas Soucek.

The 24-year-old is thought to be putting the finishing touches to his £17million switch on Tuesday, with a medical and contract signing scheduled.

It’s said that the club will likely secure a flurry of late-window deals, as Sullivan works to improve Moyes’ struggling squad.

How good is this for West Ham?

It’s certainly a positive and much-needed move, anyway. This doesn’t excuse the mistakes the board have made in the past or guarantee the club will avoid relegation, but it’s a good move for sure.

Soucek is a good player with a decent track record, but it’s obviously a step-up from the Czech Republic to the Premier League.

The Hammers needed a midfielder, certainly, because they’re far too reliant on Mark Noble and Declan Rice. Soucek will certainly help shore up the middle of the park.

In other West Ham news, an Irons veteran of over 200 appearances for the club could be on his way out.
