Report details whether West Ham will swoop for WC winning enforcer

West Ham are not interested in signing Steven N’Zonzi in the current transfer window, according to Claret & Hugh.

A report from The Sun suggested that David Moyes was keen on bringing the World Cup winner back to England this month following spells with Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers earlier in his career.

The midfielder currently plies his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray, where he is on loan from Roma, but is banned indefinitely by the Super Lig following a training ground incident, as per the Daily Mail.

With that in mind, The Sun suggest that N’Zonzi could be free to make another loan move before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

But a report from Claret & Hugh has seemingly discredited any notion of the Hammers making move for the 31-year-old.

A club source told the outlet: “It’s barely a starter – no higher than five per cent chance – the manager wants younger players.

“That’s virtually certain not to be the case.”

Would N’Zonzi be a good signing for the Hammers?

It seems like a bit of a moot point at this stage because it’s fairly obvious that the Hammers aren’t keen after this latest update, but N’Zonzi potentially could have been quite good for Moyes’ men.

After all, this is a player who won a World Cup with France just 18 months ago, playing 35 minutes in the final against Croatia.

Granted, he’s out of the picture over in Turkey now, but during the course of his 10 league matches for Galatasaray this season, he proved that he can still cut it, even if he is the wrong side of 30.

With a pass completion rate of 90.1%, plus a Whoscored rating of 6.95 – higher than Mark Noble’s and just a shade beneath Declan Rice’s 6.97 – he can clearly still perform at a good standard.

You can understand why Moyes wants to build for the future with younger acquisitions, but a little bit of experience – especially that of a World Cup winner – never hurt anybody.
