Report claims West Ham ready to ‘take a punt’ on Premier League forward

West Ham United are ready to take a punt on Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi this season.

The Belgian international is also being hunted by Leeds, who see the forward as an option if they fail to sign Brentford winger Said Benrahma [Phil Hay].

Batshuayi is deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, and David Moyes wants to add more options in the final third.

The Mirror have reported that the Irons are ready to take a chance on the Belgian international this summer.

“Leeds will reportedly have to stump up £20million if they wish to prise Michy Batshuayi away from Chelsea,” they wrote.

“The 26-year-old has been deemed as surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge with Frank Lampard having an arsenal of strikers at his disposal.

“But the ex-Marseille man has no shortage of suitors with West Ham one club ready to take a punt on him.”

Moyes was forced into playing Michail Antonio as a lone striker after the enforced break in the Premier League, and he did impress.

Despite that, it highlighted a clear weakness in his squad with only Albian Ajeti and Xande Silva to call upon in the absence of Sebastien Haller.

Ajeti has since left, and there will be a clear gap to fill for Moyes next season.

Batshuayi could be the perfect replacement, but it will take a serious financial gamble with a loan-to-buy potentially the best option.
