Report – 27y/o West Ham first teamer lined up for potential summer exit
West Ham defender Ryan Fredericks could be on his way out of the club this summer, according to Claret & Hugh.
A report from the reliable outlet claims that the 27-year-old could be one of a number of first team figures who is deemed surplus to requirements in east London this summer.
The article states that Jeremy Ngakia has impressed David Moyes to the point that he has staked a claim for a regular starting role, while fellow academy prospect Ben Johnson is also on the verge of returning to fitness.
It is understood that Fredericks is joined by Arthur Masuaku and Albian Ajeti on a short list of players who have question marks hanging over them.
There is some uncertainty as to how much of a fee Fredericks would command, however, and it is claimed that the Hammers will only consider selling the player if they receive a suitable offer for him.
Should the Hammers sell Fredericks?
This is a bit of a strange one, there’s no doubt about it.
Fredericks may have struggled with injuries this season, but you would have to say that at this present moment in time, he is still the Hammers’ number one option at right back.
That’s not to say that Johnson and Ngakia don’t have immense potential, because clearly both do, but it seems a little short sighted to go into next season with those two as the Irons’ only options at right-back.
So far this term, Fredericks has averaged 61.5% successful actions per match so far this season, as well 54.3% successful dribbles, as per Wyscout.
For his part, Ngakia has averaged 49.8% and 50% in those two categories respectively.
That’s not to say that he doesn’t have a whole lot of promise, but he must be given the proper time and support to realise it.
Having Fredericks in the squad would go a long way to ensuring that was the case.
