Reliable source: West Ham starlet set for League One loan exit this month
West Ham are fortunate to have a really exciting crop of young talents coming through at the moment.
From the first team picture with Declan Rice, to loanees like Josh Cullen, there are precocious Hammers everywhere who look set to have a big future ahead of them in the professional game.
And chief amongst that group is Republic of Ireland youth international Conor Coventry.
The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal in east London over the weekend in a clear display of the faith that the Irons’ hierarchy have in his development, but it is understood that he could be in line to take the next step in his career already.
According to reliable source ExWHUemployee, the youngster is set to go out on loan to a League One side at some point in the near future.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Ex said: “Conor Coventry is quality.
“He should be joining a League One team soon.
“Lots of clubs interested including Lincoln City and MK Dons.”
The West Ham Zone’s View is that this feels like a really smart move.
Coventry clearly has some serious talent, otherwise he wouldn’t have been given that new deal, but the best thing the Hammers can do for him to nurture that precociousness is to let him get regular senior minutes under his belt.
We’ve seen how well that can work with a player like Cullen, who is averaging a Whoscored rating of 7.03 this season for Charlton Athletic.
Coventry feels like the next natural successor to that lineage of academy products in east London, and if he can go out and enjoy the same kind of success that Cullen has then there’s no reason why he can’t come back and stake his claim for a spot alongside Declan Rice in the centre of midfield.
