Reliable source: Long-time Hammer could be on his way out
Winston Reid’s time at West Ham United – which was once shaping up to be legendary – looks like it’s going to come to a sad end.
The New Zealand international has been at the club for a decade now, but his last few years in east London have been mired by injury.
He’s accumulated 223 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, but none for the first team since March 2018.
And now it appears that the veteran centre back is going to be leaving the Irons in the near future.
Reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee revealed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that it’s likely that the 31-year-old will soon seal a move to Major League Soccer in the United States of America.
How big of a shame is this for Reid?
It’s a real disappointment, to be sure. Reid has been a mainstay of this West Ham team for the majority of the last decade, but it’s all fizzled out rather depressingly.
For the Hammers, though, it simply doesn’t make sense to keep paying him big wages every week when it’s clear that he’s not going to get back to the player he once was.
A move to the MLS would allow him to play regularly at a decent standard and earn a nice wad of cash until he decides to retire. It’s a switch that would work for everyone involved.
In other West Ham news, the club are ready to sell a player who started against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
