Reliable source issues verdict on chances of West Ham moving for right-back this month
Reliable West Ham source ExWHUemployee has cast doubt on the club making a move to sign a right-back during the current transfer window.
With Ryan Fredericks out injured and Pablo Zabaleta approaching the end of his career, the Hammers look short-staffed in that area, promoting reports that they could make a move for a full-back, as per The Guardian.
Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne and Newcastle United’s Javier Manquillo were mooted as possible targets.
But according to a report from Ex on Sunday, Fredericks could be back in action “much sooner than expected”.
It was initially expected that he would be out until February, as per the club themselves.
And based on that latest update, Ex is now unsure about a prospective move for a new right-back.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, when asked about a right-back, he said: “Not sure now that Fredericks is much ahead of schedule”.
Should West Ham sign a right-back this January?
You can understand why David Moyes might be hesitant to bring in another right-back now that Ryan Fredericks is returning to fitness, but the truth is that another body in that area wouldn’t hurt.
Pablo Zabaleta has been one of the great full-backs of the Premier League era, but his best days are undoubtedly behind him and the sooner a suitable replacement can be found, the better.
Nathaniel Clyne looks like a smart option, if the reported interest is genuine.
The Liverpool man has been out for a while with injury, but he looked good during his loan spell at Bournemouth last term, averaging 2.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and a respectable Whoscored rating of 6.43.
If he’s available at the right price this month, snap him up.
