Redknapp shares what he saw West Ham players do at full-time vs Wolves – ‘Horrendous’
West Ham’s season plumbed to dismal new depths at Molineux on Saturday.
West Ham suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Wolves, with Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan, and Mateus Mane all scoring for the Premier League’s rock-bottom side before the break.
Nuno Espirito Santo is consequently facing increasing sack pressure at West Ham, with Michael Carrick among those tipped to take over at the Hammers.
Alan Shearer raged at West Ham’s performance when discussing the games on Match of the Day on Saturday.
And the Irons’ woeful performance was also a top of discussion on Sky Sports’ coverage of Bournemouth versus Arsenal, with Jamie Redknapp stating his concern for West Ham’s survival chances.
Jamie Redknapp reacts to scenes at end of West Ham defeat to Wolves
Both Redknapp and fellow pundit Paul Merson spoke of their relegation for fears after the abject showing against Wolves, who had just two points prior to their victory on Saturday.
West Ham‘s defeat means they are lying in 18th place in the table, four points adrift of safety ahead of what now looks a must-win encounter at home to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
Redknapp was left aghast at the Hammers’ display, and also noted how awful the players must have felt when he spotted them going over to the visiting supporters at Molineux following the loss.
He said: “Oh, it’s desperate, we did the Nottingham Forest game earlier on, and afterwards we said this has been a great morning for West Ham.
“It gives them a great chance now if they can go and gets three points at Wolves, three points at Nottingham Forest, the table looks completely different, and then you go there and you get chinned 3-0.
“And I saw the players go over to the fans, that must have been absolutely horrendous for them, because they’ve had enough there, they’ve seen (them be) absolutely putrid this season, not good enough by any stretch of the imagination.
“And I can only imagine what the fans, what the dressing room’s like right now. Somehow they have to get together, or they’re staring relegation right in the face.”
With an FA Cup fixture against QPR following the Forest clash, three points against the Tricky Trees is crucial for the Hammers and the under-fire Nuno.
Who could replace Nuno Espirito Santo at West Ham?
The Hammers have already sacked one under-performing manager this season, with Graham Potter paying the price for a shoddy start to the campaign at the London Stadium.
Nuno looked to have turned a corner earlier in this short tenure, but a run of nine Premier League games without a win has left the Portuguese facing an increasingly desperate situation in East London.
- West Ham have just five Premier League wins to their name this season
- The Hammers have taken just four points from the last 27 available
- After Forest and QPR, they also have games with Tottenham, Sunderland, and Chelsea in January
Ex-Irons midfielder Carrick is one name to have been linked with a return to the club, but former boss and defender Slaven Bilic is also ready to “answer an SOS call” according to talkSPORT.
The likes of Gary O’Neil, and Frank Lampard are also names have been mentioned in some quarters as potential replacements.
Essentially, it appears as though it is make-or-break time for Nuno, and the enormity of Tuesday’s clash with Forest cannot be overstated.
