Reason revealed as Lukasz Fabianski misses West Ham United v Olympiacos clash
West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski did not even make the matchday squad against Olympiacos in the Europa League on 26 October.
The Hammers travelled to Greece for the game on Thursday and their backup goalkeeper has missed the game through illness.
Alphonse Areola has been the undisputed number one for the London outfit this season and has done a good job between the sticks.
Standard Sport journalist Malik Ouzia wrote on Twitter, “More heavily rotated side than usual in Europe from David Moyes tonight. Lukasz Fabianski is ill.”
Tough luck
Fabianski is among the most senior players in the West Ham dressing room but this season has not gone as he would’ve planned.
Last term, he was the first choice stopper as the side lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy.
However, he’s had a tough time being fit over the past few months and now it seems nigh on impossible that he starts ahead of Areola.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for him in the coming months as he may want to try his hand somewhere before calling it a day in his career.
Currently, he’s 38 and keeper do play until their early 40s too at times, but it’s not often at a level as elite as the Premier League.
Whatever he opts to do, the club are unlikely to stand in his way as he’s been a faithful servant to them.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are now frustrated with a £10m player as a behind-the-scenes revelation has emerged from the London Stadium.
