Ray Winstone slams ’embarrassing’ David Moyes following West Ham United defeat v Liverpool

Ray Winstone has been left in a rage at David Moyes following West Ham United’s “embarrassing” Carabao Cup display in their defeat to Liverpool.

The Irons crashed out of the League Cup in the quarter-final stages with a 5-1 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield on Wednesday (21 December) in one of the Irons’ worst performances of the campaign so far.

Moyes opted to make six changes to the side that beat Wolves in the Premier League, a decision that has left several supporters including Winstone frustrated, with the actor slamming Moyes for getting it “completely wrong”.

Speaking on his Instagram story, now shared on Twitter by Old School Hammer (21 December) he said: “I’m just watching this. West Ham away at Liverpool in the old League Cup, Carabao Cup whatever they call it now.

“Unbelievable, we’ve just started to play well and then Mr Moyes who I have great respect for and I really like puts a b-side out against Liverpool who are top of the league.

“I am speechless. It’s embarrassing, embarrassing. I don’t expect to win at Anfield, but I expect to have a go, have some bottle, have a go at them and they ain’t, bottles completely gone.

“I must say, David, you’ve got it completely wrong. Got the hump now.”

Rotation required

Moyes has come in for a lot of stick from journalists, pundits and supporters for his decision to rotate his squad in the league cup, but the Hammers boss would have received similar criticism had he fielded a first-choice side and picked up new injuries.

It is only natural that emotions will be running high following a big defeat and the West Ham supporters, including Winstone, are entitled to their frustrations but this was always going to be a tough ask for the Irons.

West Ham

It would have been nice to see a bit more fight from the West Ham stars, but Liverpool are a quality outfit and on the night they just managed to put the Hammers away. It is clear Moyes is more focused on both the Europa and Premier League this season.

As long as the Irons bounce back in the Premier League against Manchester United on Saturday (23 December) the supporters will be able to forgive the manner of the defeat to Liverpool. Another big defeat will see the pressure mount on Moyes once again from the fanbase.

In other West Ham news, one talkSPORT broadcaster has suggested that Konstantinos Mavropanos is one of eight players with no future with the Irons
