Ray Parlour shares ‘unbelievable’ opportunity missed by David Moyes at West Ham United live on talkSPORT

David Moyes missed an “unbelievable” opportunity for West Ham following the game against Liverpool on Wednesday (20 December), according to Ray Parlour.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (22 December), the pundit said the Hammers were “disappointing” in their 5-1 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to the Reds.

Host Natalie Sawyer added that it was a chance to reach the semi-finals, with Parlour replying that it would have been “massive” for the Irons to get to the final of the competition and make a “step in the right direction again” under the Scotsman.

“Disappointing in midweek for me,” said Parlour. “That was not a West Ham performance.”

“It’s a chance of getting to the semi-finals,” replied Sawyer.

“Unbelievable,” added Parlour. “It’s massive for the club as well to get to that final. If they did get to that final, win a trophy again, it’s a step in the right direction again.

“But I think David Moyes, big game tomorrow, we all know the early kick-offs are always important. Manchester United, coming off that draw, a lot of people fancy West Ham at home. I just don’t know what Man United team will turn up, that’s the problem.”

Disappointing

It was incredibly disappointing to see Moyes make six changes to the West Ham lineup as he clearly didn’t fancy his side to go to Anfield and pick up a victory.

The Hammers are in a comfortable position in the Premier League and through to the next round of the Europa League, so there was no reason why he couldn’t play a full strength team against Liverpool.

He has obviously decided to prioritise the game against Manchester United on Saturday (23 December) instead as he looks to finish as high up in the league as possible this season.

But an unlikely win against the Reds would have put the Irons within a couple of games of a Wembley final and the chance to claim a place in Europe again next season.

That negativity from the Scotsman is precisely why the fans have become frustrated with his tactics and approach to matches over the past couple of months.
