Pundit shares ‘more rounded’ West Ham United transfer verdict as ‘spectacular’ Declan Rice claim made

West Ham United had the best summer transfer window out of all Premier League clubs, according to talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent.

The former Premier League striker also believes the Hammers are “more rounded” after their transfer window business.

The club sold Declan Rice to Arsenal, bringing in James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, Mohammed Kudus and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

“The best deal of the window would have to be West Ham selling Rice and getting in Kudus, Alvarez and Ward-Prowse,” Bent said live on talkSPORT. “For me that is the best deal.”

Bent added: “West Ham had the best window. You lose Declan Rice and bring in those three players.

“I don’t know if they are better now, but you’d have to say they are probably more rounded. Because you’d rather have three good players than one spectacular player.”

Superb window

It wasn’t so long ago that West Ham supporters were fearing the worst going into the new season after they lost their captain and talisman Rice to Arsenal.

Many fans were expecting the club to struggle in the new campaign after the midfielder’s £105million switch to the Gunners.

Slowly but surely, however, David Moyes and his team got to work in the window, and brought in a handful of talented replacements for their star man.

And the signings have already taken to the London Stadium, with Ward-Prowse and Alvarez shining in their early careers in claret and blue.

Kudus and Mavropanos will no doubt have similar impacts once they get their time in East London up and running, particularly when the Europa League gets udnerway.

Rice has unsurprisingly immediately gained heroic status at his new club, but the Hammers board have ensured that he hasn’t exactly been missed at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, a journalist believes the club are “stronger” without Rice as “positive” early signs emerge.
