Piers Morgan predicts Man City v West Ham United as Arsenal slip to second in Premier League

Piers Morgan has given his verdict for Sunday’s Premier League finale as West Ham United head to Manchester City.

Arsenal fan Morgan posted on X [14 May] after City’s win over Tottenham Hotspur put Pep Guardiola’s side within touching distance of a fourth-straight Premier League title.

Only West Ham lie between City and the trophy, in David Moyes’ final match in charge after a successful spell of five years. A win secures the title, although an unlikely draw or defeat to the Hammers opens the door for Arsenal to sneak in if they beat Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Morgan remained positive – if not wry – as he commented: “West Ham will beat City on Sunday… as a thank you to Declan [Rice].”

Rice pocketed the Irons £105m in a record-breaking transfer to Arsenal last summer, and returned to haunt his old club by smashing in the final goal in a 6-0 defeat for Moyes’ men earlier this season.

West Ham can decide the Premier League title race

For all Morgan’s comments will have been in jest given the likelihood of Man City finishing the job at the Etihad on Sunday, stranger things have happened in the Premier League.

For one, the Irons will want to bow out on a high as Moyes departs the club, before preparations get straight underway for the Julen Lopetegui era.

Additionally, the most dramatic title race finale in Premier League history in 2012 – Man City’s first triumph – saw them struggle for the most part against a QPR side considerably worse than the Hammers.

David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

But this is Guardiola’s City juggernaut, who have overcome every league challenge thrown at them in the past four years, and it remains difficult to look past anything other than a comfortable win for the hosts.

However, should the Irons score early or absorb pressure long enough, you never know.

In other West Ham news, the club are interested in a £21m-rated striker.
