Peter Crouch is worried about West Ham

We all know that West Ham United have suffered a horrific start to the season. Their presence in the 17th position in the table is evidence of that.

David Moyes’ arrival as manager has so far failed to have the wholly rejuvenating impact it threatened to after that 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth in his first game back.

There’s still plenty of points to play for this season, of course, and plenty of time to get out of relegation trouble. But things certainly aren’t looking good in east London at the moment.

That’s very much the view of former England international Peter Crouch, who is becoming rather concerned about the Hammers’ top flight status.

“What a huge weekend this is for West Ham. I know they have faced a testing run of fixtures but I am genuinely worried about them staying in the Premier League,” he wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“The fans, who have always believed they should be in the top 10, are protesting. They do not want David Moyes to be their manager after his first spell at the club — I thought he did a good job in tough circumstances, to be fair — and the team are struggling to score goals.

“West Ham have traditionally had players who could provide a spark, whether it was Marko Arnautovic, Dimitri Payet or Paolo Di Canio, but they look bereft at the moment. They desperately need to beat Brighton on Saturday.”

Is Crouch right to be worried?

He certainly is. Things are look rather hairy for the Hammers, there’s no doubt about that. Saturday’s clash with the Seagulls is absolutely huge for them.

They don’t have many players who can create something out of nothing, as Crouch says, especially with Felipe Anderson injured and Manuel Lanzini underperforming.

There’s still hope, and the deadline day signing of Jarrod Bowen should be massive, but they need to get themselves out of trouble quickly.

In other West Ham news, a perpetually injured Irons first teamer has just suffered yet another setback.
