Pep Guardiola expects ‘best’ West Ham United to turn up against Manchester City
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes that the ‘best’ West Ham will turn up when the two sides face off on match-day 37 in the Premier League on Sunday (15 May).
The Hammers will be playing for a place in the Europa League as they are currently placed in the seventh position in the league table, three behind sixth-placed Manchester United with a game in hand.
Talking about the match as quoted by City’s official website, Guardiola stated that he expects a tough competition between the teams.
“They are playing to qualify for Europa League next season,” he said. “I expect the best West Ham, playing in the final or not. This morning I watched their last game; the games we played against them this season and we will do what we have to do.”
West Ham will be coming in the match knowing that this will be pretty much their last chance of keeping their destiny in their own hands in terms of securing a place in the Europa League, the same competition where they fell just short of reaching the final after losing in the semis against German club Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, the Hammers’ job will be a tough one to start with as they will be going up against a team looking to claim their fourth Premier League title in five years.
To make things worse, West Ham will be without winger Saïd Benrahma for the clash while there are also doubts about the participation of star striker Michail Antonio.
West Ham’s final league fixture will be against Brighton & Hove Albion, which will be played at the American Express Community Stadium on May 22.
