Paulo Fonseca expected to be on final shortlist to replace David Moyes as West Ham United manager

Paulo Fonseca is expected to be one of the names on the final shortlist of manager’s to replace David Moyes at West Ham, according to Ben Jacobs.

Writing on his personal X account (25 April), the journalist reports that the current Lille boss is one of the favourites for the role should the Hammers make the decision to part ways with Moyes at the end of the season, which is expected.

Julen Lopetegui is also a name at the forefront of the club’s mind for a new manager, after they failed to convince Ruben Amorim to take the role.

“Understand Fonseca is expected to make West Ham’s final shortlist if they decide to part ways with David Moyes,” he wrote.

“He interviewed in 2018, although failed to progress after meeting David Sullivan. Julen Lopetegui also at the forefront of West Ham’s thinking.”

West Ham United get closer to appointing David Moyes replacement

While the club’s official stance is that a decision on Moyes’ future won’t be made until the end of the season, it now seems inevitable that he will be leaving.

There is too much smoke for there to be no fire, and the fans have been calling for this to happen for a while. If he were to stay now, there would surely be a backlash too.

But the Hammers must be sure to get the decision of who replaces him right, and it now seems like they are whittling down the final contenders for the role.

Fonseca and Lopetegui have done a great job in Europe in their career, and both play the type of expansive and attacking football that the fans are desperate to see at the London Stadium.

A decision seems to be getting closer and there will surely now be movement in the coming weeks to ensure that West Ham aren’t left behind during what will surely be a busy summer window.
