Paul Parker shares ‘big’ admission on West Ham United hunt for a trophy this season

Paul Parker believes David Moyes is in a “good position” at West Ham because he wants to win something this season.

Speaking on BBC Radio London (via BBC Sport) on Monday (2 December), the pundit said it will be a “big night” when the Hammers face Arsenal in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup next month as he expects the Scottish manager to put out a strong team.

He added that the Irons should also be one of the two sides going through in their Europa League group after picking up a 3-1 victory in the opening game against Backa Topola.

“The way they’re going, there’s going to be no great concerns about relegation,” said Parker. “Just by the way they’re playing will tell you that, because it’s not just about winning games but it’s how you win games.

“You look at them in Europe and they should be one of the two sides [going through from their Europa League group] and he wants to stay in that League Cup.

“That’ll be a big night against Arsenal [in the fourth round]. He [Moyes] is in a good position because he wants to win something, so he’ll put a team out to show that to the fans.”

Keep building

It has been an excellent start to the season for West Ham, with the only defeats so far coming against two of the standout teams in Manchester City and Liverpool.

It will be another big test when the Hammers face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, but they will be confident of giving them a good game at the London Stadium.

If Moyes can deliver another trophy this season – in whatever format – it would be an incredible achievement and cement him down as the most successful manager in the club’s history.

The most important thing for now, though, is to just keep going about our business well and ensure the performance levels remain high domestically and in Europe.

The Scot will no doubt be keen to make sure everyone’s feet remain on the ground, but he can certainly be pleased with how we’ve started this campaign and how the new signings have fitted in.
