Paul Merson: West Ham can win Europa League and beat Barcelona
Paul Merson has insisted that West Ham United can win the Europa League this season, no matter who they play.
The Sky Sports pundit backed the Irons to beat Barcelona in the semi-final if they both get there, calling it “unbelievable.”
Merson was clearly stunned with the potential of the Hammers lifting the Europa League, along with the rest of the Sky Sports studio.
Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday [02 April, 12:55 pm], Merson made the massive claim.
“I think they’ve got a chance of winning this competition,”
“Barcelona have got to beat West Ham, I’m not being horrible. I mean wow, West Ham taking on Barcelona, it would be unbelievable.”
Wow.
Imagine Barcelona coming to the London Stadium, and the Irons turning up at the Nou Camp? That would be unbelievable.
Of course, we can’t get ahead of ourselves as Merson clearly is here, with a big job still to do against Lyon starting at the end of the week.
The French club cannot be underestimated, although after beating Sevilla, anything is possible under David Moyes.
Who would have known where this European journey will have taken us, with the final now a real possibility at this moment.
Lyon are first, and if Barcelona get through their game too against Frankfurt, then we can start dreaming of the big time.
