Paul Merson predicts result of West Ham v Aston Villa

West Ham United travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa on Sunday, and they will be keen to continue their impressive start to the campaign with another win.

The Hammers have lost just two league games out of nine, and they are favourites to pick up all three points at the expense of a Villa side that have lost their last three league matches.

Paul Merson is not expecting any surprises when Dean Smith’s men host David Moyes’ side, predicting a 2-1 win for West Ham.

West Ham

He wrote in his Sportskeeda column: “Aston Villa have been very hit-and-miss this month. They were really disappointing against Arsenal, and they ended up bringing off all the players they bought in the second half. They’re your best players – keep them on, no matter what happens!

“West Ham, on the other hand, will be looking at a top-four finish this season. They were poor against Brentford last week, but they bounced straight back against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

“They’re moving along nicely in the top four after 10 games, and I’m going to go with a West Ham victory this weekend.”

Another win?

The Hammers are strong challengers for Europe this season going by their brilliant start to 2021-22, and not many will bet against them winning at the Midlands.

The players are in the form of their life, and a win will further solidify their spot in the top-four going forward.

Nevertheless, Villa cannot be underestimated despite their struggles.

West Ham

They have some top players capable of coming up with a moment of magic, and the Irons cannot afford to be caught out.

Both teams have a lot to prove, with Smith particularly under pressure to justify the spending his side made in the summer after selling Jack Grealish for £100million.

It is a tough one to call, but West Ham should end up pipping the hosts to all three points.
