Paul Merson predicts result of West Ham United Premier League clash v Liverpool
Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of the Premier League clash between West Ham United and Liverpool at the London Stadium.
The Hammers suffered a shocking 5-2 defeat to Crystal Palace in their last outing, while Liverpool were beaten by arch-rivals Everton to all but end their hopes of a title in Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign as boss.
And while writing his predictions for Sportskeeda (26 April), Merson admitted that both sides have something to play for but backed the Reds to come out on top because David Moyes’ side have gone “completely off the rails”.
“Liverpool will not want their season to fizzle away, but even if they win the game they won’t go top,” he said. “Things can change so quickly in the Premier League, so they’ll just have to keep winning and see what happens.
“West Ham have completely gone off the rails in recent weeks and the result of this game will depend on which Liverpool side turns up. As bad as they were at Everton, they were undone by two set pieces and missed loads of chances, which is unlikely to be the case here. West Ham 1-2 Liverpool.”
David Moyes’ future causing uncertainty at West Ham
It seems as though the future of the manager being unclear could be causing issues for the squad, because nobody knows what is going on.
Reports suggest Moyes is “definitely” leaving, with the club in talks with several managers and David Sullivan even meeting with Julen Lopetegui recently about the job.
But with nothing confirmed officially by the club one way or another, it means nobody is sure what is supposed to be happening and that creates uncertainty with results and performances on the pitch.
Liverpool will be a wounded animal at the London Stadium and will be coming for blood, but Moyes will know that the team are capable of getting a result and really putting a nail in the coffin.
For the Hammers they still have a European place to fight for, but defeat could bring an end to that, so this is a game nobody will want to lose.
