Paul Merson predicts result of West Ham United Premier League clash v Brighton

Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of West Ham United’s Premier League clash with Brighton in the first fixture of 2024.

The Hammers earned a brilliant 2-0 win against Arsenal in their final game in 2023 on Thursday night at The Emirates Stadium, while Brighton claimed a stunning 4-2 win against Tottenham on the same night in their last outing.

And predicting the upcoming clash between the two sides while speaking to Sportskeeda (28 December), Merson admitted that both teams are capable of turning in completely differing performances but backed David Moyes’ side to get the win.

West Ham

“As I said with Manchester United earlier, both West Ham and Brighton are a bag of revels,” he wrote.

“I thought the Seagulls would give Arsenal a run for their money, but the Gunners absolutely blew them away earlier this month.

“West Ham are a good team at home and the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen have been in fine form in recent weeks, so they should have enough to win this game. West Ham 2-1 Brighton.”

Talent

Both of these squads are full of brilliant talent and sensational footballers, but the way both team approach their games are very different.

Brighton tend to approach each fixture with a very attacking mindset with the hope of outscoring their opponents, while David Moyes sets his Hammers teams up not to lose games and hopes the quality in attack can score enough goals to win the game.

West Ham

It worked when the two sides met earlier in the season as we ran out comfortable winners despite many people giving Brighton the win before a ball was even kicked.

West Ham have had some excellent form recently and good performances even in defeats, but if we perform to our capabilities we can definitely get the win and start the year off in the perfect way in front of the fans in east London.

The Seagulls will be difficult to contain but thankfully there is no real advantage in terms of recovery time, so with home advantage we have the edge.
