Paul Merson predicts result of West Ham United ‘headline’ clash v Luton Town in David Moyes admission
West Ham United will stretch their winless run in all competitions to seven matches when they face Luton Town on Saturday 11 May, according to Paul Merson.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that the Hammers won’t be able to mark David Moyes’ last game at the London Stadium with a win, predicting Luton will pick up a vital point in the relegation battle in a 1-1 draw.
Rob Edwards’s Hatters sit two points adrift of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and will need a win to climb out of the dropzone heading into the final game of the season, but Merson believes they’ll have to settle for a point.
Writing for Sportskeeda on Thursday (9 May) he said: “Luton have to win this football match, if they don’t they are virtually relegated. They need at least four points from their next two games to stay up. This is the perfect time to play West Ham considering their recent run of form.
“This is David Moyes’ last game at home and he deserves a good send-off after what he’s done for the club. It also represents a huge chance for Luton to get some points and take it to the last day of the season – they need to at least avoid defeat to keep the relegation battle alive.
“West Ham are going nowhere in the table, so this a decent chance for the away side to get a headline result.”
Will West Ham United and David Moyes in Premier League clash with Luton Town?
Saturday’s clash will be the first game for the Hammers since it was announced Moyes would be leaving the London Stadium at the end of the season and the players and supporters will be desperate to give him a good send-off.
But their record in the Premier League in this calendar year has been incredibly disappointing and it is hard to see how they will claim all three points, especially when this game means so much more to the Hatters.

A number of those West Ham players will be playing for their futures under Julen Lopetegui next season as the former Real Madrid manager will be eager to put his own mark on this squad.
Hopefully, that will spur the Irons on as they look to get back to winning ways. If nothing else, it would be nice to end the Moyes era in East London and give the new manager a winning platform to build upon.
