Paul Merson predicts outcome of West Ham v Burnley

West Ham will take on Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday (17 April) looking to bounce back to winning ways.

The Hammers lost 2-0 against Brentford in their previous league game, and they need a strong performance at home turf.

Paul Merson suggests that Burnley are in “desperate” need of points, but he can’t see the Hammers dropping points either, and has predicted a 2-0 win for David Moyes’ side.

“Burnley have to win this game. I watched them last week – did anyone tell them they had to win that game? I thought they were very poor,” wrote Merson for SportsKeeda.

“How can you not play your most talented player in a match you have to win?

“Sean Dyche has done an unbelievable job at Burnley and has kept them in the Premier League against all odds. Burnley are desperate at the moment, but I’m going to go with West Ham to win this game.”

Must win

The Hammers will be bubbling in confidence after beating Lyon 3-0 in the second leg in France to book a place in the Europa League semi-final.

However, they must translate their European form into the league. They have to get into the top-six, and the competition is intensely fierce.

They had a chance to close the gap with other top-four rivals as both Manchester United and Arsenal had dropped points, but they failed to capitalise on it.

There will be a new man in the away dug-out this weekend after Burnley have taken the decision to part ways with Sean Dyche, their long-serving manager.

They are desperately fighting for lives, but the Hammers are expected to pick up all three points at their home turf, although Moyes could make some changes to the squad to keep his players fresh.

Jarrod Bowen has been in phenomenal form this season, having scored his 15th goal in the midweek, and he will be looking to maintain his impressive form against the Clarets.

In other West Ham news, Lucy Ward has gushed over “terrific” Craig Dawson last night against Lyon.
