Paul Merson predicts draw for West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has predicted a draw for West Ham United in their match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Both sides will clash on matchday five of the Premier League at the London Stadium on Wednesday evening [31 August].

In a column for Sportkeeda, Merson stated that even though there is a clear difference in the standings of both teams, the Hammers should take heart from the fact that Spurs have not played as well as the results they’ve produced.

West Ham

“West Ham got a big result against Aston Villa as they finally got their first point of the season,” he said.

“Tottenham, on the other hand, have got good results, but a deeper dive into their performances will tell you that they haven’t played particularly well. West Ham 1-1 Tottenham.”

Not bad

West Ham entered the season with a lot of optimism but results in the first three weeks turned out to be exactly opposite to the way it was expected.

However, a win against Aston Villa, that too while playing away from home, will definitely give a boost to the players ahead of an important derby clash.

The fans will be hoping that the players will be able to produce an even better show than the one they did against the Villans and secure a win against a team who are clearly in a mix to secure a top-four finish.

Both teams have competed 52 times in the history of the Premier League where Spurs have a slight edge with 25 wins compared to the Irons’ 17 victories.

In the past five matches across all competitions, it is all square between the teams as both sides managed to win twice whereas one match ended in a stalemate [Transfermarkt].
