Paul Merson delivers verdict on Marcus Rashford amid West Ham interest
Paul Merson has suggested that no manager should consider losing Marcus Rashford amid interest from West Ham.
According to a recent report from The Guardian, Rashford is seriously considering his future as he is getting frustrated with the lack of game time.
The 24-year-old is an established Premier League star, and the Hammers are reportedly keen [90min] on signing him, should he decide to move on.
Merson said to Sky Sports: “No manager in their right mind would come to Old Trafford and offload Rashford. Even if I was going to take over the club as manager tomorrow morning, I wouldn’t be letting Rashford go!
“This is why Manchester United are in a shambles, how haven’t they got a manager in place now. Whoever does come in as manager isn’t going to get rid of Rashford, so the move will have to be done before then, that’s if it is going happen.”
Merson is absolutely spot on. He is a big player for the Red Devils and the club should look to hold on to him at any cost.
He has a contract at the club till 2023 but United have an option to extend it for another year.
According to The Daily Mail, the Red Devils value Rashford at around £70million. The likes of PSG are also keen to secure his services.
David Moyes would love to have a player of his calibre who can take the Hammers to the next level, but he is simply out of reach.
Even if West Ham can manage to come up with an offer close to his asking price, his massive £375,000 weekly wage [Claret and Hugh] would make it impossible for the Hammers to get his deal done.
If money wasn’t an issue, Rashford would have been an ideal summer signing.
Rashford has performed on the highest stages – both at Champions League and at international arenas. Unfortunately, he is way too expensive for the Hammers.
