Paul Merson blown away by what West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus did v Brentford
Paul Merson was blown away after Mohammed Kudus put West Ham United level in the first half against Brentford on Saturday 4 November.
David Moyes’ side extended their winless Premier League run at the Brentford Community Stadium, with Jarrod Bowen and Kudus’ first-half strikes proving to be in vain as two second-half goals saw the home side come away with a 3-2 win.
Following Neal Maupay’s opener for the home side, Kudus levelled things only eight minutes later with a spectacular overhead kick midway through the opening period with the Ghanaian’s second Premier League goal leaving Merson speechless.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (4 November, 15:20) he said: “I told you I was looking forward to this game and what a goal this is. Ball gets played into Antonio on the corner of the box, he takes it, goes down the line, then crosses to the edge of the box.
“There is Kudus with a bicycle kick and puts it back in the far corner. It’s an unbelievable finish by Kudus, what a goal.”
Moment of magic
West Ham wanted to sign players this summer who were capable of popping up with magic moments in crucial parts of matches to ensure that they were able to climb the table domestically and continue their excellent form in European competitions.
There are few players who are more capable of the spectacular than Kudus and the Ghanaian international has shown just why the Hammers were so keen to add his talent to their squad during the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old’s first-half strike only had an xG of 0.08 and he truly had little right to hit the target with his effort, let alone beat Mark Flekken in the Brentford net [Fotmob]. While it still only counts as a single goal, Kudus is the sort of player to get supporters out of their seats and behind their side.
What was refreshing to see was the fact that Moyes played the winger in his preferred position, rather than as a central attacking midfielder behind Michail Antonio. Supporters have seen just how effective the 23-year-old can be when isolated alongside a full-back and it seems as though the Scotsman has finally agreed with that verdict.
Hopefully, that will be the first of many spectacular strikes from the Irons’ new star man.
