Paul Konchesky shares why West Ham fans may not take to name mentioned as Graham Potter replacement

Paul Konchesky is far from sold on the sacking of Graham Potter at West Ham.

There is no hiding away from the fact that Potter is clinging onto his job at West Ham after a terrible start to the year at the London Stadium.

Having watched on as West Ham fall to a 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace, there is no doubt that Potter’s future hangs in the balance.

This could soon see David Sullivan make a sack decision over Potter, with a number of replacement options already assessed in E20.

Now, Konchesky has spoken out to share his thoughts that the claret and blue faithful may not be pleased with a potential replacement for the Englishman.

Paul Konchesky unsure how fans would react to Nuno Espirito Santo

West Ham seemingly have a free run to land Nuno, should they look to hire the ex-Wolves boss in the coming weeks or months of the season.

This comes after the Portuguese head coach was sacked earlier in the campaign by Nottingham Forest after a fallout with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking was a shock at Nottingham Forest

It appears that this controversial decision could open the doors for the Irons to swoop in and land the appointment of the 51-year-old.

With that being said, former Irons ace Konchesky has been left unsure how this appointment would go down with supporters in East London.

Speaking live via Give Me Sport’s X account on 24 September, the ex-defender shared his belief that Nuno is too similar to David Moyes.

He said: “I think at first people would say it’s a good appointment, but his style is much like David Moyes’. If you look at Nottingham Forest, they defended their box and played on the counter.

“For me, that’s how Moyes played, and the West Ham fans eventually didn’t like that way. Nuno is like Moyes, so it would be interesting to see what the fans think.”

West Ham may opt for Slaven Bilic over Nuno Espirito Santo

It is fair to say that Nuno would get a positive tune out of the Hammers if he were to take over at the London Stadium this season.

Besides a brief and bizarre spell at Tottenham, the ex-goalkeeper has been a useful coach in the Premier League for many years.

With that being said, the potential negativity surrounding his appointment could represent too much of a risk, something which could result in Bilic making his return.

Konchesky is also unsure about this move, saying: “I think the big benefit of Slaven coming back is that he knows the club. He knows what West Ham fans want and what they need at the moment.

“He would be a good fit, but I think it has to be long-term if they appoint him because short-term is for now, not the future.”

It will now be interesting to see what sort of decision the board make in E20 surrounding Potter and any alternative head coaches.
