Paul Brown wowed by West Ham United ‘unsung hero’ Edson Alvarez who has ‘slotted in very well’
West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez has “slotted in very well” at the London Stadium, according to journalist Paul Brown.
The Mexico international joined the Hammers in the summer transfer window from Eredivisie outfit Ajax, signing a deal until June 2028 [official West Ham website, 10 August].
The 26-year-old midfielder has since made 18 appearances in all competitions in claret and blue, with 13 coming in the Premier League.

“I think Alvarez is a bit of an unsung hero,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT (13 December). “He doesn’t always grab the headlines.
“But he came in at a difficult time for the club as one of the players they signed to replace a club legend in Declan Rice, and he’s quietly gone about his business very effectively. He slotted in very well very early on. He didn’t need very long to settle.
“I think he’s been really good for them, and they miss him when he’s not around. So, they’ll want him back in tip-top form as quickly as possible.”

Moyes had a huge task in the summer transfer window when it came to replacing Rice, who was always destined for bigger and better things.
Perhaps that scenario allowed the East London club to carefully plan for a future with the England ace, because they did a superb job in filling the hole that Rice left at the London Stadium.
Alvarez made the switch to West Ham in the summer alongside Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, and the two have formed a formidable partnership at the heart of midfield.
Both have immediately hit the ground running under Moyes, with their tackling, passing and energy in midfield hugely appreciated by the West Ham faithful.
With their goals and assists, it is Ward-Prowse and attacker Jarrod Bowen who have stolen much of the headlines this season, with Alvarez perhaps going under the radar.
Fellow summer signing Mohammed Kudus has also impressed in his brief time at the London Stadium so far, having played with Alvarez at Ajax.
In other West Ham news, a journalist has made a Hammers transfer prediction as a Moyes “issue” is highlighted.
