Paul Brown suggests West Ham United getting frustrated with Tomas Soucek
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek hasn’t looked the same player anymore this season, as per Paul Brown.
The Daily Star journalist told Give Me Sport (20 September) that David Moyes is getting frustrated with Soucek who has suffered a massive dip in form.
Soucek’s contract situation could be “playing on his mind” and that could be a big reason for his underwhelming start to the season.
“It’s always risky to throw any of your kids into a team that’s struggling a little bit, but I do understand the frustration with Soucek. He’s not looked the same player for some time now,” said Brown to Give Me Sport.
“There were lots of stories about him not seeing eye-to-eye with the manager. There was talk about him being up for sale in the summer and his contract situation dragged on.
“I’m sure all that’s been playing on his mind and may be the reason behind his dip in form.”
Soucek has a contract at the club until 2024, and he remains a key player for the Hammers.
He has made 10 appearances in all competitions only, but it seems his future at the club remains far from certain.
Give Me Sport suggest that the Hammers have made it very clear to him that he won’t be getting a pay rise, and as a result, his contract talks have been put on hold.
A host of Premier League clubs including Everton and Aston Villa are vying for his signature.
There are suggestions that Soucek and Moyes do not share cordial terms anymore, but the 27-year-old has managed to maintain his place in the side.
Last season, Moyes was forced to use both Soucek and Rice in almost every game. However, he now has plenty of options available in midfield.
The club signed Flynn Downes who can be his natural replacement. While Declan Rice can play in his role alongside Lucas Paqueta.
