Paolo Di Canio makes West Ham United plea to Jarrod Bowen after Liverpool draw

Paolo Di Canio has sent a message to Jarrod Bowen after the West Ham star notched his 16th goal of the Premier League season against Liverpool on Saturday (27 April).

Di Canio previously held the record for most goals by a Hammers player in a Premier League season outright but now shares the benchmark with the 27-year-old following a stellar 2023/24 campaign.

The winger signed for West Ham in January 2020, transferring from Hull City on a £20million deal, and has since netted 60 goals in 200 appearances, winning a European title in the process. [BBC Sport]

Speaking via Sky Sports, and shared by the club’s official X account on Monday (29 April), Di Canio said: “Bowen, I have to tell you, congratulations!

“You have done an amazing job this year, and not only this year but please don’t score many more goals… I hope, for you, a great future and I hope you score a lot more goals for our Claret and Blue colours.”

Jarrod Bowen earns legendary status at West Ham United

To be named in the same breath as Hammers legend Di Canio is a dream for any Irons supporter, but to actually tie up a record with him is an incredible achievement for Bowen.

No supporter could have imagined just how key the former Hull man was going to be for West Ham after he joined and nobody will regret the money spent on him four years ago, it has been a wonderful investment.

With 60 goals and 39 appearances during his time at the London Stadium, Bowen has created many special memories for the Hammers fanbase, writing himself into the club’s history books.

The most famous memory will forever be that title-winning goal against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final last season, though his dedication to the club has been enough to place him among West Ham heroes.

As Di Canio alludes to, there will likely be many more goals to come and the Italian’s record will be left in the dust as Bowen continues to reach new heights at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, the club have been handed a major boost in appointing David Moyes’ replacement as a manager has made his future intentions clear.
