Paolo Di Canio makes bold West Ham prediction amid relegation battle

West Ham have the potential to finish in the top eight of the Premier League in the near future, according to Hammers legend Paolo Di Canio.

David Moyes’ men are currently fighting a relegation battle after struggling for form all season, and find themselves above the drop zone by goal difference alone.

But Di Canio believes that this side can achieve big things if they can retain their Premier League status this term.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “West Ham have incredible quality and incredible potential for the future to finish top eight, because the club obviously spent big money in the past two years.

“It didn’t pay off, unfortunately, at the moment because we have many problems, but, in my opinion, the future will be green.

“Now is the moment to get unity and stay together.”

Does Di Canio have a point here?

Absolutely, yes.

Given the expenditure that has gone into this West Ham side in recent times, it’s almost unbelievable that they find themselves were they are currently.

This season in particular, after having signed Sebastien Haller for a club record fee, not to mention the likes of Pablo Fornals, you would have been forgiven for expecting the Hammers to really kick on and prove their credentials.

Instead, we have seen one of the most underwhelming campaigns of the Gold and Sullivan era.

Why that is hard to pinpoint, but if the Irons can avoid the drop this year then you would hope there will be a major inquest into why we keep on coming up short.
