Pablo Fornals makes strong admission on West Ham squad

Pablo Fornals has suggested that West Ham have an “unbelievable” squad and that he feels they are getting close to their best form.

The Spaniard has pointed out that the Hammers are getting the results despite not playing well, but he is “100 per cent” certain that they are going to get better.

West Ham have failed to win their last two games, drawing against Leicester City and Newcastle United.

The Hammers were really poor in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Saturday [19 February], with the club failing to create enough clear-cut chances during the game.

Fornals said to The Evening Standard: “We have an unbelievable squad with many players but it is true that we have a main block [of players].

“And this main block is playing for many games, but we did the same last season and this season we are fighting.

“We are not winning at the moment but we are not losing, it is just about starting to click those small things, we are going to come back soon.

“100 per cent [we feel close]. It is all a process, we didn’t play well against Kidderminster or Watford but we won. We played a bit better against Leicester and then again better against Newcastle so I think it is a process and we are in a good way.”

Improvements needed

In terms of talent, the Hammers do have a very good squad, but they are not playing to the best of their potential.

Some of the key players at the club are struggling for form and consistency, and this has affected the overall performance.

For instance, Michail Antonio has now gone seven games without scoring. In any other top club, he would have been dropped but at West Ham, David Moyes is left with no options but to start him on weekly basis.

The failure to bolster the squad in January is now affecting the Hammers and it eventually could cost them a place in the top-four.

A big improvement is required from everyone in the coming weeks. Obviously, the club have made giant strides in the last two seasons under Moyes compared to where they were before, which has given rise to high expectations.

Fornals has made 24 appearances this season, scoring five goals. He started the season on a high note, but in recent games, he has failed to replicate his best form.
