Pablo Fornals could now be bargain signing for someone despite West Ham United contract situation

Pablo Fornals could now be one of the “bargain” transfers available despite West Ham triggering a clause to extend his contract until June 2025, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The website reported [17 January] that, with this being the Hammers’ last real opportunity to gain a significant transfer fee for the Spaniard before he starts to make pre-agreements with other clubs, Fornals is one to keep an eye on in the summer.

It is understood that the London club would only be open to a permanent transfer, or the promise of a buy-clause included in a loan deal for Fornals.

Sevilla and Real Betis were said to be interested in the West Ham outcast last summer, with the latter especially linked by former boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Time to say goodbye

It has been a sad decline for the 202-time appearance maker at London Stadium. Fornals has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, but he has only started 10.

With David Moyes preferring an attacking trio of Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen, there has been limited room for the Spanish midfielder to stamp his mark on the team this season.

And even despite West Ham triggering a clause in the player’s contract, keeping him at the club until the end of next season, it is quite clear that they are just hoping to gain more money from his transfer rather than losing him on a free transfer.

If the Hammers are able to find a suitable deal for Fornals, they should absolutely take it without a second thought. Even despite the club’s injury woes this campaign, he has still been unable to cement a place in Moyes’ starting XI.

And with no goal contributions as of yet, his appearances are only taking away minutes on the pitch for the next generation of players, such as Divin Mubama, who could be deployed on the wing in the absence of Paqueta.

In other West Ham news, a £50m FFP update has emerged on a midfielder linked with a move to the London Stadium.
