Ogbonna disappoints, Bowen stars – West Ham player ratings v Brentford
West Ham suffered a shock home defeat against Brentford on Sunday at the London Stadium.
After Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for the Bees, Jarrod Bowen equalised late on.
However, there was a final twist in the tale as Yoane Wissa scored in the dying stages of the contest to hand Brentford the three points.

Here’s how West Ham Zone rated the Hammers players on Sunday afternoon:
Lukasz Fabianski – 6
Had a fairly mundane performance, despite making a few telling saves. Was very little he could do for the Bryan Mbeumo goal but they could’ve stopped the winner from finding the back of the net.
Vladimir Coufal – 6
A relatively quiet game for the usually busy Czech international. Did his best to combine with the attacking players, but his passing was wayward. Improved considerably in the second half.
Kurt Zouma – 5
Could have done a lot more to close Ivan Toney down during Brentford’s first goal. He also picked up a yellow later on, which wasn’t really impressive.
Angelo Ogbonna – 4
Did not track Mbeumo down when he slotted the ball into an empty net after Toney’s shot was saved by Fabianski. He was constantly bullied by Toney and lost possession on 11 occasions.

Aaron Cresswell – 7
Improved considerably in the second period in what was a relatively good performance by the left-back. Proved to be a constant thorn in the Brentford side and played some good crosses into the box.
Tomas Soucek – 7
Stayed relatively deeper than he normally does which did not work out well for the Hammers. However, once he started getting forward, things improved. He also was credited with the assist for Bowen’s goal.
Declan Rice – 7
Whenever he moved forward, the Hammers side seemed to have got overrun in midfield, showcasing his influence in the middle of the park. However, once he decided to play a sitting role, he could assert his influence on proceedings.
Jarrod Bowen – 8
Scored a fantastic volley to ensure that his side almost picked up a vital point at home. Did not threaten the Brentford goal too much, but scored when it mattered. Unfortunately, the Hammers did not hold on.
Said Benrahma – 6
After enjoying a good start to the season, he has had a few quiet outings recently and this one was the same. Did very little to influence proceedings.

Pablo Fornals – 7
Was sharp with and without the ball and tried his best to combine with Michail Antonio. Should’ve got a goal but was unfortunate in certain periods.
Michail Antonio – 5
Was isolated for the majority of the first half, but improved greatly in the second period. However, would be disappointed that he wasn’t clinical in front of goal.
