No direct contact held between West Ham United and Arne Slot amid David Moyes speculation

West Ham United have held no direct contact with Feyenoord manager Arne Slot but “anything is possible” in the summer, according to Claret and Hugh.

David Moyes relieved the pressure on his shoulders thanks to a well-earned 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday (16 April), which took his side up to 15th position in the Premier League with eight games of their seasons remaining.

However, The Times reported last week (12 April) that West Ham were one of several teams keen on Dutch manager Slot and that the club are “expected to part company” with Moyes regardless of whether he keeps his struggling team in the top flight this campaign.

“We understand there has been no direct contact with him [Slot] at this stage and after the draw against Arsenal the manager has seen the pressure relent to some extent,” the Claret and Hugh report said.

“But a key contact told us exclusively: ‘We review things at the end of the season, anything is possible, though our preferred option is the manager has a fantastic end to the season and sees out his contract.'”

Change needed?

Moyes managed to get his West Ham United team back to their very best against the Gunners at the weekend, and if they continue in this vein over the coming weeks, they should have no problems easing away from the relegation zone.

The problem for the Hammers has been stringing together consistent performances over the whole campaign, with Moyes and his side looking lethargic and devoid of ideas at times.

Whether the Scot has run his time at the London Stadium is very much debatable, with a natural succession in the hot seat at West Ham seeming more and more likely as the season progresses.

Slot would certainly fit the bill for a Premier League manager in the making.

The 44-year-old has transformed Feyenoord into runaway league leaders this season, winning 21 of their 29 league games this season, and eight points clear of Ajax in second.

Slot is a candidate to keep an eye on come the summer, but for now, the club need to give Moyes their full support as the race for survival intensifies.
