Niclas Fullkrug injury issue worsens in crushing West Ham United blow

West Ham United have been handed an injury blow as Niclas Fullkrug has seen his minor calf issue worsen, according to the Mirror.

The news outlet reports in their newspaper [8 November, pg 67] that Julen Lopetegui’s problems have compounded, with Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez also suspended.

Ahead of the Everton fixture on 9 November in the Premier League, the Spanish manager admitted that the 31-year-old will remain on the sidelines for a considerable period.

Niclas Fullkrug has disappointed at West Ham United

Fullkrug was brought to the London Stadium with high expectations after his exploits at Borussia Dortmund and for the German national side at Euro 2024.

The 31-year-old has established himself as one of the best number nines in football, scoring 14 goals in 22 appearances for Die Mannschaft.

Fullkrug has unfortunately been unable to showcase his talent at West Ham so far this season, making just four appearances for the club.

In the summer, the Hammers faithful knew that bolstering the squad with a quality number nine was a priority.

While Michail Antonio has been a loyal servant at the Irons for several years, the 34-year-old is unarguably past his prime and hasn’t been the most prolific in the last few seasons.

If West Ham want to progress and consistently challenge for the European places in the Premier League table, then a reliable striker will be essential.

Fullkrug has been a frustrating signing so far for the London Stadium faithful, and at this point, it feels like the Hammers already need to go back into the market and find a replacement for him.

In other West Ham news, the club have made their decision on sacking Lopetegui regardless of the Everton result.
