Newcastle United player Harrison Ashby in contention for Conference League medal despite West Ham United exit
Newcastle player Harrison Ashby may reportedly get a winner’s medal after West Ham clinched the UEFA Conference League.
The Hammers won their first European trophy and the mood around London Stadium has been ecstatic since their triumph over Fiorentina.
However, per the Chronicle [Page 54, June 9], Ashby may still get a medal as he played the 90 minutes when they beat Viborg 3-1 in the group stages.

Tough one
If the decision is to be made by the club then it’s certainly a tough one and they will surely be deliberating over it.
It’s not like Ashby was the reason they made it so far in the tournament and he left a sour taste by how he left West Ham.
It remains to be seen what the Hammers decide to do and if Ashby comes asking for a medal, which is rightfully is, they may perhaps agree.
However, given how ecstatic fans are currently, they wouldn’t care either way as this is one of the happiest they’ve been in their lives when it comes to supporting West Ham.
The club has been through far too many lows so for them to celebrate a European trophy, even if it’s a third-tier competition, will not matter to them.
It’s now time to build on this success and even though Declan Rice will be leaving, for them to get in quality replacements and go again next season.
