Newcastle remain interested in January transfer for West Ham United defender Harrison Ashby

Newcastle United remain interested in signing West Ham defender Harrison Ashby in the January transfer window, according to Claret and Hugh.

ExWHUemployee shared on The West Ham Way that the Hammers were resigned to losing Ashby and they are ready to offload him in January rather than losing him for free in the summer.

The player shares the same agent as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, and a reliable source has suggested that the Magpies could reignite their interest in the young defender, after making an attempt to lure him away in the summer.

Leeds United are also said to be in the hunt to sign the 20-year-old, and they could table a bid for the player as well in the January window.

It is up to West Ham to find the best deal possible. Ashby is a fantastic young defender and it’s a shame really to lose another emerging talent to a Premier League rival.

During the summer transfer window, the Hammers lost Sonny Perkins to Leeds, and they face a similar situation again. The youngster has made great strides over the last 12 months or so, but David Moyes cannot guarantee him regular chances for the senior side.

West Ham

To be fair, West Ham have loads of options in the right-back areas. Ben Johnson has established himself as a quality right-back, while summer signing Thilo Kehrer can play there.

Even if the Hammers decide to sell Vladimir Coufal, they won’t have a shortage of options, as Maxwell Cornet can play fill that role if needed.

It is indeed a blow for everyone concerned as no one wants to see a rising academy talent depart the club.
