New update could boost West Ham’s chances of signing Emi Buendia
West Ham may have received a boost in their bid to sign Emi Buendia from Norwich after sporting director Stuart Webber offered an update on his future.
Webber was talking about Norwich’s preparation for the Premier League and revealed the club is not opposed to selling key players, including Buendia, Todd Cantwell and Max Aarons.
Buendia was linked with a move to East London by The Mirror (p72, via PressReader) earlier this month, so Webber’s words should encourage the Hammers in their pursuit of the midfielder.
Webber told BBC Look East, “It might be the end of the journey for some of them, it might be a club comes in that is off the scale.
“One of them may go, maybe two or all three of them will go, who knows – but the facts are that this team isn’t about one or two players. For us to be successful in the Premier League it’s going to be how does the squad of 20 do, not if one player performs brilliantly.”
But the sporting director also added that Buendia and his teammates would each cost in excess of £25million.
Big summer ahead
West Ham have made huge strides on the pitch in recent months and now it is time GSB properly backed David Moyes’ project.
Signing Jesse Lingard has to be the number one goal before adding Buendia and a striker to compete with Michail Antonio.
Buendia is full of talent and riding high after scoring 15 goals and assisting 16 in the Championship this season.
He can play wide on the right or through the middle so is perfect for Moyes’ system and an ideal alternative should we not land Lingard.
The Argentine may be a little pricey but he is a sound investment since he is 24-years-old and therefore likely to get even better.
If Moyes wants him then the board must back the manager.
This is West Ham’s chance to establish ourselves as a club that consistently competes for European qualification – the board cannot afford to waste it.
