Nedum Onuoha sends David Moyes warning after West Ham win v Everton

Nedum Onuoha says David Moyes must keep West Ham performances ‘in check’ ahead of a ‘historic’ end of season run in in the Premier League and Europa League.

The Hammers picked up a vital three points with a narrow 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday, with the returning Jarrod Bowen on the scoresheet.

As they now prepare to take on Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final clash in midweek, former Man City defender Onuoha told BBC Match of the Day 2 that Moyes will be aware that the performance didn’t match the result and he must address it.

“Whether people believe in them or not, they believe in themselves,” he said.

“Going into games against Lyon they can smell the final. This is a historic moment for them, but at the same time they’re winning games in the Premier League.

“What I would say though is while the result today was very good, David Moyes will know himself that it wasn’t their best performance, so they just need to keep a check on that for the rest of the season.”

Consistency

West Ham have had a tremendous season by their own expectations, regardless of how it ends at this point either domestically or in Europe.

However for them to achieve the best possible results that they can they need to ensure a consistent level of performance.

Being able to win when not at your best is a great trait to have, but it’s incredibly hard to maintain and Moyes must do everything he can to wake the team up and get them back to their best.

The return of Bowen is a huge plus, while Michail Antonio looked fresh and lively against Everton while Declan Rice continues to impress in midfield so the foundations are there.

A positive result brings the fans together and builds momentum and with the fans behind them, a historic end of season could be awaiting them come the end of May.
