Nayef Aguerd update emerges as West Ham United share photo before clash v Bayer Leverkusen
Nayef Aguerd has been spotted in training ahead of the Europa League quarter-final clash v Bayer Leverkusen, as seen on the West Ham United Website.
The Morocco international has had a tough few months as he has struggled for minutes due to injury concerns.
He has played just once since mid-February as he featured from the start against Burnley at the London Stadium. With that being said, he was substituted late in the game and hasn’t played since.
There was some positive news last time out as Aguerd was named on the bench in the win against Wolves but he was an unused sub in the 2-1 win at Molineux.
It has now been confirmed via images that the Hammers’ defender is set to be involved, in the squad at least, versus Bayer Leverkusen.
This will be music to David Moyes’ ears as a welcome addition back to the squad for this season’s end-of-season run-in.
What impact can Nayef Aguerd have on West Ham United?
Aguerd was an exciting signing back in 2022 given his pedigree as well as the £30m fee [BBC] paid to sign him from Stade Rennes.
Since signing he has made over 50 appearances and has scored four goals. He featured in 30 games last campaign and has made an additional 25 this year [FotMob].
Following the 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, the Morrocan had an injury lay-off which saw him play just once in the next two months.
He did travel to face Angola and Mauritania with his national side and featured across 90 minutes in both fixtures.

Now he has made a squad return for the Hammers he is set to make some appearances in the coming weeks. Where he will slot back in is the question to ponder.
Konstantinos Mavropanos has come in and performed well this season and in recent weeks has been a consistently good performer.
It will take time for Aguerd to come up to speed and likely won’t feature much against Leverkusen but to have him back in the squad can only be a positive.
