Nayef Aguerd uncertain over West Ham United future as new admission emerges
Nayef Aguerd has admitted he is uncertain about his future as a West Ham player after leaving on loan last summer.
The 28-year-old joined La Liga side Real Sociedad on a season-long loan, with it understood that the deal did not contain a buy option, leaving the Hammers demanding at least £25million for a permanent move [El Gol Digital].
He also appeared to wave goodbye to the East London supporters upon sealing his move away during the summer, taking to Instagram [31 August] to send what seemed like a final farewell.
Speaking to Marca on Saturday (21 December), Aguerd said: “I’m not going to lie. I came here to find my best level again, first of all, because I wasn’t playing for West Ham and I want to enjoy every moment here, as I’m doing.
“I still have two years left on my contract with West Ham, but now I’m only thinking about helping Real to go as far as possible in the three competitions and then there will be time to think about the future.
“I don’t know if I’ll have to go back, I don’t know if I’ll stay here, I don’t know if I’ll go somewhere else, it’s not in my hands.”
West Ham United to cash in on Nayef Aguerd?
While Aguerd was often snubbed by David Moyes in his last season at the London Stadium, new management could see the defender return to London at the end of his loan spell.
The Hammers are in desperate need of defensive reinforcement, with Julen Lopetegui only having Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo to choose from.
Despite this, it would be a very difficult task for Aguerd to win back the trust of the passionate fans, which based on his previous actions, may be too much work for him.

He has started 13 of Sociedad’s 17 La Liga fixtures so far this season, becoming quite an important figure under Imanol Alguacil, but they cannot afford to become too attached if a permanent transfer does not emerge.
Aguerd seems to be stuck between a rock and a hard place, with his future in East London completely up in the air, but fans will suggest that he only has himself to blame after seeking an exit during the summer.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have opened discussions to finalise a pre-agreed permanent transfer.
