Nayef Aguerd issue emerges, Maxwel Cornet ruled out – West Ham United team news v Freiburg

David Moyes has shared his early team news for the West Ham game against Freiburg on Thursday (7 March).

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday (6 March), the Hammers boss revealed that there is a “question mark” over Nayef Aguerd heading into the Europa League last-16 tie against the Bundesliga side.

He added that Maxwel Cornet hasn’t travelled with the squad, but the rest of the side are fit to play as the Irons look to pick up a first-leg advantage in Germany.

“We’ve got a question mark about Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet hasn’t travelled, so we’ll have to see about those two,” said Moyes. “Other than that, we’re OK.”

West Ham squad almost fit and healthy ahead of Freiburg

This is probably the healthiest condition the West Ham squad have been in for some time after some of their star players have suffered injuries in this calendar year.

Moyes will no doubt be delighted to almost have a fully fit squad to choose from, with only Aguerd and Cornet looking set to miss out on the Europa League clash.

While the Moroccan international has featured heavily this season, he’s lost his place in the side recently to fellow centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos on the back of some disappointing performances.

David Moyes has had a mixed season at West Ham

The Hammers boss could be tempted to make a couple of changes to freshen his side up against the German club, but he will be keen to keep the momentum going on the back of two straight victories.

There is no doubt this is a massive game in our season as we look to progress into the latter rounds of the competition and ensure this is another successful campaign at the London Stadium.
